Vegan Chilaquiles recipe

Chilaquiles are a traditional Mexican breakfast dish made with tortillas.

In central Mexico, it is common for the tortilla chips to remain crisp. To achieve this, all ingredients except the salsa are placed on a plate and the salsa is poured at the last moment before serving. In Guadalajara, cazuelas are kept simmering, filled with chilaquiles that become thick in texture, similar to polenta. In the state of Sinaloa, chilaquiles are sometimes prepared with cream. In the state of Tamaulipas, on the northeast side of the country, red tomato sauce is commonly used. In the state of San Luis PotosΓ, it is also common to serve chilaquiles with cecina rather than pulled chicken.

"Publish or perish" should be abolished by force and it should be ok to just be an academic. Like a guy who just teaches philosophy or something without having to bullshit that you've found a new angle on Kant.

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You can just be a lecturer. That is usually an option.

[–] TrashGoblin@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not so much in the US? Non-research professors in the US are usually adjuncts, paid piece rates per class with no insurance and short-term contracts.

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

I cannot say for all universities, and I don't know the details of the contracts in my university, but I can say that for one professor I was a teaching assistant for, he was quite happy with his deal. My university forced professors to become exclusively researchers or exclusively lecturers. Some were more happy than others truthfully but still

Absolutely no one is becoming a lecturer at any university in this country without publishing research, I don't know about yours though. In fact I just looked up the position on my university (And another university because I have a bad brain) and both stress the need for publishing research while holding that position as a primary part of the job.

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My university actually forced many professors to either be exclusively research or exclusively lecture. And boy did I hear about it.

[–] Keld@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

Well then. That's that. Honestly I almost prefer that in a weird way. Having professors not be available for students because they're doing research or forcing people who just want to do research to work with students they don't give a shit about both give subpar results. Although I can see those who want to do both things who would be annoyed about it.

I might have fucking sun poisoned myself, fuck, i read that UVB exposure is much higher from 10-2pm so i made sure to go out then and i was out for like 50 minutes and definitely over shot how much sun i wanted. I feel it just throbbing warmth all over and i expect to feel fatigue and chills later. I just hope i don't get blistering and shit ugh fuck

P.s. nobody needs to warn me about skin cancer, i know, but it turns out it makes my psoriasis go away and im sick of peeling itchy skin and im probably gonna die of cancer anyway so yea

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

If you catch skin cancer early, it's a pretty easy treatment, but you can try vitamin D pills and see if they help at all.

The Noon Wraiths in Witcher 1 were terrifying, especially considering they were just out there in the daytime. Poland is scary.

I went to my first protest ever today. I'm in a small town so there aren't many. I would definitely recommend bringing a sign or something to hold because otherwise you're just kind of standing there awkwardly. Oh well, I was a body at least.

[–] merthyr1831@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago

pro tip is to leave a bunch of papers in your car with your protest slogan on it and then go [redact] some low level politicians

post this on Facebook and say it's the US airforce general staff. Rioters will have burned DC to the ground by sundown.

[–] HarryLime@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

I turned it off, but I swear during the part of the military parade where they showed the unit of the guys with the little drones, there were only like two drones flying in the air and one soldier was just holding up a third drone.

Like, was it broken? Why would you only have three and only two that would fly? And the drones looked like something you could buy in a best buy in 2014.

It's weird that my dorm/apartment block (Is it still a dorm if people who haven't been students since the 70s live here?) has its own fully equipped bar and microbrewery but no grocery store.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago

call that a wet grocery

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Bars and brewery take less space and have higher profit margins

Need a new collection of hobbies and hyperfixations to shitpost about so that people can't ID me from my old account - looking for maybe a solid half-dozen (6). Suggestions???

Preferably nothing involving physical coordination since I'm a depressed nerd dubois-depressed nerd & also nothing math-like because I'm more of an Actual Art Degree nerd de-conceptualization smoker-on-the-balcony than a STEM nerd de-encyclopedia sunday-friend

This was posted on a Bluesky.

I expected the top reply would be some kind of "Yeah!". I was very wrong.

[–] CrispyFern@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago

Just took a look at the front page of this site and all i gotta say is wow, Thanks for sabotaging Obama day lol

I got a lot done. I guess Iran attacking back lifted my spirits a bit and also gave me something to do while doing other stuff. My modified PS1 stopped working but I was able to fix it by finding one of my solders stopped working and I reflowed it. Changed the batteries on the last of my GBC carts. Finished the Haruhi Suzumiya manga. Finished the 10,000 coin grind in Mario Kart 8. Caught up on some YT videos I've been meaning to watch (mostly anime reviews). Caught up on most of my cleaning and stuff. Sewing patches on my backpack because I'm transferring them to a new one since the old one got ruined de to reasons (taking me awhile because it's a pain in the ass to sew with the thick material and I keep putting it off).

I wonder when we're gonna get a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet as a tale of star crossed lovers, one a gooner, one ace

Lord give me the confidence of Mehdi Hasan referring to Greta as "Zeteo contributor Greta Thunberg".

Btw how do we not have a single Greta emote? This is why we don't have communism yet

I think the closest thing is this one from when Zionists were accusing her of being antisemitic for having an octopus plushie pflp-octoplushie

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

My suggestion would be the death stare she gave Trump a couple years back.

[–] DoomBloomDialectic@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I periodically get the fantasy worldbuilding itch and honestly it's more annoying than anything. Mostly because I don't write want to write a fantasy novel (and don't write fantasy-as-such for my larger creative projects in general), and realistically working full time combined with the active communist lifestyle wouldn't make a d&d group feasible, my main friend group I'd recruit from for such a thing would be people with the same issue schedule-wise.

Maybe I'll pick my d&d hobby back up if I make it to retirement chomsky-yes-honey

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago

Just write all the notes you can download and see what comes of it from there. Im a sci fi guy and I feel like that can be easier to get started cause you at least aren't usually making up a whole new universe. Non Tolkien fantasy fucks me up cause he's the only guy that is nitpicky in the same way I am.i was talking at work today about things that don't make sense regarding language in stat wars, mostly the etymology of 'droid' which is clearly a shorter version of 'android' which is fine for c3p0 or whatever but 'android' means it resembles a human, 'andro-id', but r2d2 or whatever is far from that. The term 'humanoid' has been used in Canon, I looked it up, so the 'oid' suffix for being similar to the prefix is still a thing. Mideval style fantasy gives me problems cause I like mideval history and the fantasy genre makes no damn sense with how people live their lives pretty much all the time. I really give a shit about the soil conditions and what crops are possible, water sources and all that crap

Soy-nazis are saying it's cultural imperialism for the Demon's Souls remake to do "body type A, B" instead of gender. They're so fucking lame.

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Cultural imperialism against what group? Japan doesn't really have gender in their language. Why should they have to add it?

'cause they're soy conservatives with a conspiratorial outlook on everything they don't like. And appropriating high falutin liberal IDPOL to them sounds like an intellectual gotcha' to them.

Next week is my last one on lib island roc-cool, after that I go back home. It was very fun while it lasted, but I'm also happy to see my family and friends soon. It's a weird feeling to have been away for almost six months; and it feels even weirder that I'll leave again for China in September.

Also, I realised a short while ago that one of the planes I take to go back is a Boeing. Wish me luck, comrades!
