I remember Joe Biden being accused of rape and the woman who did it basically being hushed down. I haven’t seen a single person mention it (recently). Given his age, status, and political beliefs, it seems pretty much guaranteed to be at least somewhat true. How did I forget about this?

The coolest part of that was how it took the #metoo thing down with it

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 68 points 7 months ago

That was incredible and horrifying. The whole thing was shut down and forgotten almost overnight. "believe Women"

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 84 points 7 months ago (3 children)

The same mechanisms that shut down accusations from people never actually went away, so when it became inconvenient to "believe women" they revved them back up and buried the story

Tara Reade ended up moving to Russia over it, which y'know, only ended up making libs more bloodthirsty, many using the same rhetoric as rape defenders and apologists

This is why you can't trust them; they're perfectly willing to turn on their beliefs because they don't actually have them

Jesus christ. Forced in to exile because you were attacked by Genocide Joe. That's just awful.

This is something all leftists need to learn at some point: Liberals don't have any real beliefs or principles they live by. They're reactionaries at heart, any "progressivism" is tenuous at best. Being progressive and being a Liberal is a contradiction. Thats why we see breif periods of "progressive" times followed by the worst reactionary periods. Capitalism is only "progressive" in relation to what it was replacing, not actually progressive as we understand the word.

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 26 points 7 months ago

There is something of an art to discerning a liberal at heart to someone who is passively lib just by virtue of existing in this society (which we all are, to some extent)

The Kingdom of Conscience will be exactly as it is now.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 39 points 7 months ago (2 children)

To be clear, seeing all the libs turn around and attack Tara Reade using literally the exact same rhetoric Republcians attacked Christine Blasey Ford was the thing that made me go from being annoyed at libs to actively despising them

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 29 points 7 months ago

Yep

My radicalization went from "We can probably convert most of them with a cogent argument" to "Camps, all of you, ten-thousand lessons, no trial"

[–] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 17 points 7 months ago

Same, there were other breaking points for sure but this was a big one

I don't know how to put this into words without sounding harsh. Not because I want it to be true, because I don't, but because it just reality.

American society, broadly speaking, doesn't care about the safety and autonomy of women. This goes for the liberal side as much as conservatives.

Bill Clinton assaulted young women throughout his entire political career and he was rewarded with 8 years in office and being respected (even if we don't see him as respectable, libs love him) as a "good statesmen" for, presumably, the rest of his life. He's been a known abuser for three solid decades at the least with absolutely no consequences beyond, I suppose, national embarrassment.

How did democrats act towards him? Well, they elected him obviously. And still respect him. And they either waive away accusations (and some known-truths) as "the women wanted it" or just outright deny he did anything wrong at all. Basically viewing Bill as unimpeachable (slight pun intended) despite a proven record of being gross at the lesser side and a rapist, manipulative piece of shit on the further scale of his crimes.

And republicans for their part elected Trump despite him also having credible (and now proven although only in civil court) claims of being an abuser and rapist. His ex wife accused him of doing really just revolting stuff.

Oh, and who could forget, Bill and Trump were both friends with JEFFREY FUCKING EPSTEIN king-pimp at the center of one the worst identified child trafficking and rape rings. It would be impossible for me to sit here and type out the fucking spiderweb of connections both presidents had with Epstein and his associates but suffice to say they participated in child trafficking and rape in some form or another.

You had Kavanaugh (sp) also credibly accused to the point that he should've been disqualified by any reasonable group of people from being a judge much less on SCOTUS. Thomas was also accused of sexual harassment and assault. Biden or course. The list is really long and easy to forget who hasn't been credibly accused of something. Probably not Obama to my knowledge? (What a low fucking bar... "don't be a rapist")

But anyway, Americans across the board basically don't care. It's just a weapon to attack the opponent with and a misogynist society can easily overlook and forget it when it's their favored person. There's always some inexplicable reasoning for why accusations against Biden aren't credible from DNC types. Or the Q anon types love to obsess over Epstein, but you bring up Trump, and it's "no no no, he's anti pedophile!"

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 77 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Just assume every President is a rapist pedophile and you probably will be right in most cases

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 26 points 7 months ago

Kind of a find the needle in the haystack situation where the needle is the only non-rapist pedophile

You never got to meet the "It's March 26th and Joe Biden is still a r*pist" bot

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 48 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Was that a bot or was that wombat just being real dedicated?

[–] wtypstanaccount04@hexbear.net 41 points 7 months ago (1 children)

@wombat is not a bot, just very dedicated

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 13 points 7 months ago

The democrats took the whole #metoo movement out back and shot it the instant it stopped being useful to them.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 36 points 7 months ago

Just like ACAB or Black Lives Matter or any other social movement. It's almost like they don't actually care about social progress at all and just use it as a political tool to try and win votes...

Intersectionality is important but lib idpol or lib essentialism whatever you want to call it is real.

Libs always use identity as a weapon so they don't have to talk about things like class conflict, wealth inequality, or how they're functionally the same as Republicans. They just wave a little pride flag around while they bulldoze low income housing to make way for shopping complexes and "luxury" priced five over ones.

Once they're done using a talking point for their purposes they discard it.

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 57 points 7 months ago

Liberals have a seething hatred for his victim and think she's some Russian psyop.

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 56 points 7 months ago

everybody capable of using the Internet saw that clip of Biden repeatedly and upsettingly touching that poor young woman's face even as she turned away and pulled back, only for him to keep doing it. he is so obviously one of those paycho guys that thinks it's his God given right to touch whatever young woman he wants. before #MeToo it was excused as the behavior of a man from an earlier, more affectionate friendly grandpa time.

while #MeToo was popping off, that shit would have fallen flat. by then, he had repeatedly shown himself as an aggressive asshole when caught out by young progressives during the primary. the whole "why why why why why" and "dog faced pony" shit. the guy is an obvious solid gold prick with a fake smile. 100% chance he's done what he's accused of and probably worse.

then he was accused. the circling of the wagons around him and vicious attacking of the victim by libs obliterated #MeToo

I remember when liberals decided it was "proven" that his accuser, Tara Read (Reade?), was lying because a former landlord and an ex-boyfriend combined forces to call her a b*tch in some op-ed or some shit. Like seriously, I don't think it was actually written by them, but it was an article where an ex-boyfriend and a whiny former landlord were cited as two of the key testimonies about her character.

[–] CthulhusIntern@hexbear.net 40 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

Someone gave me the reasoning that rapists are usually repeat offenders, and the fact that no one else came forward proves that she lied.

Then I asked him if he believes Brett Kavanaugh assaulted Christine Blasey Ford, and he got really uncomfortable. I could've gone even further and mentioned that there's more evidence Biden assaulted Reade than Kavanaugh assaulted Ford (neither would have enough evidence to get convicted, but it's still evidence.)

[–] axont@hexbear.net 36 points 7 months ago

And also Tara Reade's mother is recorded on the August 11th, 1993 episode of Larry King live. She called in and asked who she could talk to other than the press, because her daughter is working for a prominent senator but wants to report sexual assault.

And nothing happened then either

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 27 points 7 months ago

After Tara Reade made the accusation, someone dug up a video of a Larry King show from that year. A woman, later confirmed to be Reade's mum, called in regarding a senator who SA'd her daughter.

Feck it, I found the link

Callback to that time it was revealed his idiot fail son has him saved as Pedo Pete in his phone. I guess that stutter runs in the family

[–] bubbalu@hexbear.net 8 points 7 months ago

Wait do you have the link for this?

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 22 points 7 months ago

wow, the Wikipedia article about this must have ben written by a rabid dog at a cia blacksite, disgusting

[–] D61@hexbear.net 19 points 7 months ago

Specifically in regards to Chapo dot chat or maybe it was in the early Hexbear dot net days there was a specific request to stop bringing it up every day out of respect for comrades who have had some experiences with SA and didn't need to be constantly reminded of the horrors of the real world in a place they used to blow off steam/escape from reality.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Yo, mind adding an NSFW tag, OP?

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 15 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Funny how whenever libs list all of bidens accomplishments "killing the metoo movement overnight" isn't on the list.

It was actually going strong then a powerful Democrat got accused and that shit got shut down hard and fast.

[–] frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 7 months ago

Al Franken must be fucking seething wherever he is
