harshest campaign rhetoric

looks inside

republican apologia

[-] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 58 points 2 months ago

This country needs two functioning political parties

While it beats the current number of functioning political parties (0), why two, Tim?

[-] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 53 points 2 months ago

We need a strong Republican Party! liberalism

[-] cmhickman358@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

If they're not interested in being the Republican party, by heck we will just have to be the Republicans instead!

[-] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 51 points 2 months ago

yes, a maoist party and an anarchist party

[-] Orcocracy@hexbear.net 41 points 2 months ago

grillman

I think the Maoists and the Anarchists both have some very good ideas. The Maoists seem pretty serious about doing important reforms, but I think the anarchists would be more fun to have a beer with.

[-] spectre@hexbear.net 22 points 2 months ago

This, but unironically

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago

So, a Maoist President and an Anarchist VP? A power couple?

[-] HarryLime@hexbear.net 51 points 2 months ago

You joke but Americans love that shit, sadly

[-] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 47 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

My mom was so happy talking about who compnala's Republican cabinet member would be. so-true maybe it'll be Liz Cheney.

I had to stop her and be like, that sucks. Why would you willingly cede power to your enemies? This betrays some of the worst political instincts.

[-] queermunist@lemmy.ml 39 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I hate this place lol

EDIT To be fair and balanced, half of Americans don't even vote. I doubt they love this shit. A large minority of voters, too, are part of the same "I'm not loving it" bloc. It's only the most vote-pilled ballot box brains that have this particular sickness.

They're the most important voting bloc, though, so she's really speaking to her base.

[-] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

It’s largely for liberal boomers and yes they absolutely eat this shit up

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago

I'm American and it pains me.

It was the top of the hour so I decided to see what MSNBC was up to and they ran with that soundbite. Of course - they focused on the word "cult". It's a fundamental given at that network that two strong parties are needed.

[-] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 42 points 2 months ago

Only one party held a competitive primary, and it wasn’t yours, champ.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago

It was only competitive until Trump said he was running, lol.

[-] ElChapoDeChapo@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

sans-shrug at least they had a real primary but yeah, a pox on both of their houses

[-] ElGosso@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

You mean the primary where Trump participated in zero debates and was still coronated anyway?

I get that we're all reflexive contrarians but come on.

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Debates between a bunch of people who don’t even think they have an Ideology definitely enhances American democracy.

[-] ElGosso@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

The debates are literally the only time in the whole campaign where people get to see candidates interact with others in something that isn't a photo op stuffed to the gills with the most ball-sucking sycophants they can find lmao

[-] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 2 points 2 months ago

Trump attended as many primary debates as Biden did. The difference is that the RNC actually held debates, because they were running a competitive process. The DNC just backed Biden as a matter of course. No consultation, no attempt to present options to voters, not even a token attempt at an open discussion. The primary was a procedural formality. That is what a coronation looks like. Trump, despite his many, many flaws, put himself forward and won the Republican primary. Not attending the debates was a dick move, but given his popularity with Republican voters, and his overwhelming victory at the end of the day, I find it unlikely that it would make a difference. Hell, there's an argument that it might have hurt his chances.

I'm just saying that Walz's position that the Democrats are a functioning party while the GOP is a cult rings a bit hollow. The DNC unwaveringly supported Biden as he was slurring his words and falling down stairs until he eventually quit due to not wanting to suffer an embarrassing loss. The GOP had their shit together while the Democrats were scrambling to replace their candidate. The fact that they seem to have avoided catastrophe doesn't change the fact that they were the ones who steered themselves into catastrophe in the first place. A little humility wouldn't be misplaced.

[-] Rod_Blagojevic@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago

back-to-me

Will there be a workers vanguard party or are we just talking about having 2 capitalist parties?

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 33 points 2 months ago

Of course - libs will be excited because he called the republicans a cult and he did so in the right way - without referring to them by name.

r/politics thread

Holy mother of fuck - the top comment is ~1,200 words.

I just want to clear a few things up in response to conservative's petty, misinformed, and unprincipled attacks on Walz...

[-] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

Love tooo type essays telling people about how much of a lib I am

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

What a fucking dork. That account has multiple tl;dr rage essays about Biden and Trump's records. There's even a wall of text about how totally legit the Muller investigation was (despite, you know, not actually arresting Trump and throwing him in prison).

I don't know if it's just a lib coping and trying to understand reality without the tool of material analysis or a DNC psyop. Probably both.

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

Muller investigation

Justification of the Mueller and his investigation is super old school. Usually if he's mentioned in r/politics - it's by libs who are mad Trump didn't go to jail.

I don't know...

In a way I hope it's a DNC psyop and not unpaid essays written by some poor schnook at a keyboard who's trying hard to never doubt American exceptionalism.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago

It's totally trying not to doubt American exceptionalism, isn't it lmao

[-] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 3 points 2 months ago

I almost feel sorry for liberals. The republicans have it so easy. Usually all they need is a tautology/mantra to say to themselves like... "America is exceptional because it's exceptional." But liberals look at the world differently so they often have to create annoying mental constructs to explain how America is always exceptional. It must be exhausting for them. They need to explain and rationalize that America is still an exceptional country even if they know local homeless situation is awful or they hear their relative got fucked over by his insurance company to the tune of $80,000 or they learn that a black coworker with a pricey BMW routinely gets hassled by the cops simply because he's black or the libs are considering sending their kids to an expensive private school they can't afford because their public school system is awful.

People in deep denial hate it when somebody makes them try to wake up. When a leftist makes a simple, factual observation like the homeless should be housed - I think some libs aren't even aware they're punching left. They think they are justified in attacking somebody trying to tear down America.

in bad country, people shit in the street because there aren't enough bathrooms

I'd link this article to the next person I saw saying racist nonsense about other countries, but I also know they'd blame it on California being communism.

at least

Well I'm doing my part by voting 3rd party im-doing-my-part

[-] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 21 points 2 months ago

Sometimes I wonder if Obama was truly naive and genuinely believed the US is so democratic and diverse in governance when he condemned Raul Castro for leading a one party country.

[-] blame@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

i think they believe it. i’m sure we’d see the mask slip more if they didn’t.

[-] culpritus@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

He's a coach, so he knows you have to play against a competitive opponent if you want to improve contextphobic

[-] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

What happened to calling them weird, Tim? You going back to calling Trump a threat to democracy? Because that worked so fucking well.

[-] kittin@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

Down with cults of personality, says archetypal folksy midwesterner who doesn’t like chili

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago

Nope, nothing culty at the DNC

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 17 points 2 months ago

Liberals are going to get us all killed and I'm thinking we might need to do something more proactive.

[-] Hohsia@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago

Republicans and drumpf bad

so-true such a leader! This is the change we need

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

Why not more than two?

[-] MayoPete@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

They're not trying to win. If they were there are so many ways to actually land blows against the GOP... "Weird" worked for a minute because they are weird!

Where I am from the Republicans are mainly redneck assholes with a lifted F-350, several guns, and several more child support payments. These fuckers are dumber than rocks but they act tough to hide how scared and pathetic they really are.

Then you have the dudebro white guys that all look the same because they are all wearing polo, khaki shorts, douche sunglasses combos. They are all Andrew Tate wannabes and are insufferable as a result. Also the Jordan Peterson fan club. Losers but they come from money...

And then you end up with crazy karens who popped out five kids before they turned 25 and didn't mature past middle school. Bunch of fucking Jesus freaks that go to every school board meeting and scream about banning books. They don't understand hypocrisy because they can barely read. The only thing they know about Christianity or the Bible is what they are told on Facebook pages like "Pugs for Pence", "Trump is our savior", etc.

There's a new type now, people of color, mainly men, who are super Jesus freaks and are now hard right. They hate abortion and anything LGBTQ and I guess stopped voting blue in spite of these beliefs. This has always been a big voting bloc within the black community but now seems to be breaking off from being disgruntled Dem voters. If this trend continues Democrats will not be able to win any state in the south for generations.

Republicans are child molesters. There's hundreds of cases of elected officials, priests, and far-right activists being busted doing SA or with CSAM. IDK why Dems don't put that picture of Trump with Epstein up everywhere... scratch that, I know why and it's part of why they can't rise to this moment.

They don't fight dirty, they don't play to win. This kumbaya shit seems to be a core value among the Democratic base. We can carve out our own base by focusing on going harder, offering real cures for what ails us and not just empty promises.

[-] dRLY@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

Seems that his own words should mean that the Dems should actually be doing everything possible to help third parties elevated. If he and the Dems really and truly cared about stopping the very party that they constantly say is both fascist and overall evil/threat to freedom. Then they should be actively push through full access of at least the Green Party. Which they don't want, even if it means constantly moving to the right. Fuck them and their fake concern and fear mongering. They show their true colours by how they reacted to the Trump shooting. If he is truly the "biggest threat to actual freedom" then they should have said nothing at the very least.

[-] hashbrowns4life@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

isnt this just copying the GOP's rhetoric lol
