infinite hopium good luck comrade traore may your path to success be open and without treachery or despair

[–] Cigarette_comedian@hexbear.net 99 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Wow! It's almost as if gold mining is really profitable! I sure do wonder what external factors kept Burkina Faso from doing this before??? (france-cool international-community-1international-community-2 )

[–] Gucci_Minh@hexbear.net 50 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I'm really glad Traore keeps a piece on him at all times. It might seem a little silly but knowing how Sankara got got it might actually save his life one day.

[–] CommunistBear@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago

From the sound of it, he's already survived several assassination attempts

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 30 points 1 day ago

Fred Hampton slept with his. Let's hope security doesn't sell out or get caught slipping.

[–] Des@hexbear.net 37 points 1 day ago (2 children)

holy shit hard to believe a state can just do that

directly improving these farmer's material conditions.

i know they are basically under siege from western backed insurgency but i can't help but think this might have the nice side effect of building a massive popular front to back the government. the kind that might form dedicated militias and stuff

[–] cfgaussian@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Apparently they already have impromptu volunteer civilian militias patrolling the streets of Ouagadougou to defend against coup attempts on the Traoré government. The Burkinabe people are very politically conscious right now.

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago

They already pretty much have that going on, people outside the country have his support so it's just a matter of getting the domestic supporters equipped and organized to defend the movement.

God, Lenin, fucking ANYONE protect this man and ensure a swift victory for the Burkinabe armed forces against the fascists and insurgents trying to tear him down.

“Those who come with wheat, millet, corn or milk, they are not helping us. Those who really want to help us can give us ploughs, tractors, fertilizers, insecticides, watering cans, drills and dams. That is how we would define food aid.”

The western empire hates him! Liberate your people with one simple trick!

Nationalize western-owned extractive industry running under fraudulent, exploitative schemes -> use the funding to free low-productivity agriculture labour power through mechanisation of agriculture -> build up industry attracting international investment from China, Russia and other emergent powers, put the newly created proletariat to work in the industry -> industrialise your country -> free your people from western colonialism

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why? conically that's ectoplasm left by a spooky ghost

[–] fox@hexbear.net 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't watch South Park and would have no clue that's the case

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

It's definitely not the case; but it's the excuse Randy gives when people discover him in this state shortly thereafter.

[–] fox@hexbear.net 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Who the hell is Randy I don't watch South park

[–] tomenzgg@midwest.social 8 points 1 day ago

It's the guy in the picture.

To the comrade asking about the Sahel confederation the other week: I was being a lib, this is based as hell

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 27 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Impressive considering they probably have to spend a lot of their time and resources fighting off ISIS, IIRC they are making a real big comeback in the region

sankara-salute I love seeing the developments of Burkina Faso

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 55 points 1 day ago

God fucking dammit I love this so much. I wish all my best to Burkina Faso

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 36 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I've been thinking a lot lately about that throwaway line in the infamous Folger's Coffee incest commercial, where the US Army dude says he's back from "West Africa." What the fuck were US troops doing in Burkina Faso in this fictional universe?! sankara-shining

Edit: On further research, I guess he was supposed to be volunteering in the Peace Corps. The presumed penchant for sister-fucking got me crossed up and made me assume US Army. False alarm!

[–] fox@hexbear.net 25 points 1 day ago

Nothing has ever justified chemistry reads more than that commercial

$179 million read the headlinevery-intelligent

[–] DerRedMax@hexbear.net 4 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I was referring to the likely headline/hit piece coming from Western media like they do with China:

But at what cost?

Are those tractors or tractor parts in that photo?

[–] determinism2@hexbear.net 5 points 13 hours ago

Looks like a trailer with a combustion engine and some sort of belt driven mill for grain.

They need to include the tuareg in these policies to improve their conditions and quell the insurgency.

Are the Tuareg excluded from Traore’s policies?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 18 points 1 day ago
[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

They can zaï even harder now. Unfortunately, with the biological state of the Sahel, they'll be pressed to.
