That’s not how graphs work? Even the dogshit American education system teaches that

[–] BrezhnevsEyebrows@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

turning a big dial that says "Democracy" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right

[–] forcequit@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

democracy for who, ben? fucking neocolonial aquaman?

[–] Goblinmancer@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Democracy is when you have different parties that all have the same policies.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

That's called bipartisanship and it's the goal of every Third Way enlightened centrist :billdawg:

I've seen his shit defended here before.

I've rejected his quirky infographicy bazinga propaganda ever since his "if 99% of humanity was wiped out by an environmental crisis, that's still a net win for future humanity!" :galaxy-brain: take.

EDIT: Yes, it was an established poster, not a wrecker; I didn't name names because I didn't want to start that specific struggle up again.

Yes, I didn't like it and I feel vindicated about Kurzgesagt being lib propaganda with every additional video that Kurzgesagt comes out with. Being told "if you ignore X Y and Z Kurzgesagt actually has great takes about specific topics" :morshupls: was bullshit to me then and is bullshit to me now. Have grievances with me if you must about that. :ok:

I hear way more people talking about seeing bad opinions on hexbear than I see myself, are you sorting by modlog or something?

[–] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Translating from Ulysses talk: "I've seen people defending X even on Hexbear" usually means "there was a wrecker with a bad take two years ago and now I'm going to make it sound like it's a common thing."

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

In the cause of Kurzgesagt, it was not a wrecker; it was someone with an established post history. I just didn't name names.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dunk me if you will, but in the case of Kurzgesagt defending, it was an established poster, definitely not a wrecker. I hope they changed their mind eventually.

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I may have been a radlib at the time, but I don't think Kurzgesagt was pumping out propaganda from the outset. It was mostly shit about physics and black holes and cool nerd stuff. Feels like all of that was a Trojan horse for the propaganda in retrospect.

In the past I think there may have been some plausible defense for Kurzgesagt videos, even if I hated the cute quirky :reddit-logo: targeting presentation from the start and even recommended videos from well meaning progressives rubbed me the wrong way (the one about "keys to power" comes to mind).

The "99% of humans killed off is a victory for the 1%!" take from Kurzgesagt was so on the nose in favor of :capitalist-laugh: that from that point forward such defenses were inexcusable to me.

[–] ProletarianDictator@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I know the exact CGPGrey video you're talking about too 💀

“99% of humans killed off is a victory for the 1%!”

I have not seen this one, and I'm so glad I stopped watching holy shit

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

I know the exact CGPGrey video you’re talking about too 💀

My mistake, that was a CGPGrey video; I didn't like his videos either even if the presentation is less slick and big budget sus to me.

I have not seen this one, and I’m so glad I stopped watching holy shit

I believe it was the "what happens if there's a big calamity that threatens life on Earth" video. Yeah its conclusion was that it'd be great for the 1% that remains, because the implication was, presumably, that :porky-happy: can repopulate the magically livable planet after the worst was over.

That's what everyone concentrates on, but the main channel (the German one) was funded by the Federal government of Germany until earlier this year (they quit the contract because public broadcasting rules banned them from advertising merch lol)

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

ahahahahahaha and I thought it couldn't get any more blatant ahahahahaha :matt-jokerfied:

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Their HQ is in München, by far the most gentrified city in the country, with rents up to triple that of other areas.

[–] Sinister@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Really, I thought Frankfurt or Berlin might be more gentrified?

They're pretty bad too, but München takes the cake.

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Imagine getting a check for over half a million dollars to make these dipshit videos.

[–] Ho_Chi_Chungus@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago (4 children)

this mother fucker really going to look me dead in the eye and say that French Guiana is not a colony?

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Puerto Rico is a commonwealth, not a colony. Its right there in the name.

The US Virgin Islands are simply where we store our national reserve of virgins.

Nobody ask about Haiti.

[–] edge@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

French Guiana, Françafrique, the Dutch Antilles, Greenland, las Malvinas, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and a bunch more.

[–] HauntedBySpectacle@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

las Malvinas

with you on the rest, but come on. it's a thousand shepherds on a barren rock no one else ever lived on.

[–] JohnBrownsBussy2@hexbear.net 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

In the case of the Falklands, for me it's less about democracy, and more that no single nation like the US or UK or France should be able to claim sovereignty over far-flung islands across the globe which then confer unearned navigational and resource rights.

[–] zifnab25@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

glances at Guam, nervously Haha, yeah.

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Ackshually it is an overseas department and not a colony.

Tankies destroyed by facts and logics.

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)
