No because we need to bitch about things sometimes

[–] ElGosso@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We could always just ban people for using it to be sexist if we want to keep it for this context

[–] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago

I believe that already gets posts removed, at least.

[–] Starlet@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago (1 children)

no I love being a dumb bitch

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Mixed feelings, because it is used in a positive sense in many contexts.

[–] hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's similar to queer, still can be an insult but it's been sufficiently reclaimed that a blanket ban doesn't make sense.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Yeah, agreed.

Huh. Funnily enough, at one point bastard would have been a slur, too, but the idea of being "born out of wedlock" has become so silly, at least in parts of the US and I presume other places, that folks don't assign it any real power anymore.

oh fuck its been way too long since I listened to Nas

[–] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'll sit this one out. I could take it or leave it.

If we ever get a word swap version of the filter though, request that it swaps it to a complementary emote to jesse-wtf since Jesse was the master of it's usage.

[–] AernaLingus@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, personally I naturally stopped using the word ages ago, but idk what the sentiment is in general. Would be interested to hear people's thoughts.

[–] ChestRockwell@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

My partner made it very clear it was something I needed to dump (would use in heated gamer moments).

So I dumped it. It's not particularly difficult.

Edit, though that was just her, obviously there's the reclaimed usage and so it's not cut and dry.

how I feel about bitch really depends on how it's used, so I'd be fine with not adding it. But I'm not gonna fight if people want to add it either.

[–] FuckYourselfEndless@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

I've been mentally preparing for this possibility for years. Go ahead. Censor me some more.

I'd lean no, but ig if people feel strongly about it

I think the word moist should be banned because whenever I read it I hear an old lady licking her lips in my head.

[–] forcequit@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

ngl I thought we'd already done that

[–] Cherufe@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

This is Meredith Brooks erasure

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

I don't use it much, I'm not fond of it. But I don't think it's strong enough to warrant filtering and has various contextual uses where it's fine.

I actually dislike "Karen" significantly more and think the case for that word is higher.

[–] MamaVomit@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

Yes it's speciesist

[–] DoghouseCharlie@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago

Surprised it wasn't already, to be honest!

my b-word a-word is on notice :(

I’m not crazy about it since I think it has obvious sexiest overtones, but agree with other posters that it probably should be judged on a case-by-case basis.

My personal way of judging gendered insults is if the masc equivalent is less insulting, it’s probably sexist. In this case I feel like calling someone a dog is less insulting than calling them a bitch so it is a sexist insult.

[–] AbbysMuscles@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No (I'm a bitch); I think we're broadly well-mannered and well-modded enough around here that we can evaluate words on a case-by-case basis.

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

People here say that we're mature enough to use it correctly, but I've occasionally seen stuff here like "my boss the b-slur" and "my ex the b-slur". It's uncommon, but it happens.
