"why socialists shouldnt abandon capitalism"
Matt McManus’s intriguing new book, The Political Theory of Liberal Socialism
Might as well call it The Political Theory of National Socialism

Power dynamics
There is a specter haunting Hexbear...
Many liberals would agree with Ludwig von Mises that the core commitment of liberalism is to private property, and obviously socialists can have no truck with that. My response is that if liberalism really can be boiled down to little more than a fetish for property, it isn’t an inspiring credo worth allying with.
but it can be boiled down to it, brother.
The goal of socialists should be to hold a mirror up to liberals and say that they cannot achieve their goals unless they’re willing to extend liberal principles about equality and freedom from domination to the economy.
I like holding mirrors, we can hold them for another 100 years at least
Liberals when socialists hold up a mirror to them:
Second, and relatedly, I spent the better part of the past decade reading a great deal about the Right and its main intellectual currents
I poisoned my brain and now it's broken
Also define what the "Right" is mate, cause it's usually just liberalism
There are differences of course inside the right as subset of libs, but the unifying factor is private property, which grinds his gear probably.
hold a mirror up to liberals and say that they cannot achieve their goals
lol this asshole thinks liberals care about achieving their stated "goals" but their real goal is maintenance of private property
The liberals that drop the private property bit are 99% of the time anarchists, which is still, at least this strain (i.e. Chomskyites, etc.), an underdeveloped political ideology.
Let me guess, by "liberalism" they mean some vague shit about freedom, democracy and "enlightenment values"
"I get to own capital and you get to work for me for a fraction of your labor's value, but I also tolerate gays and like weed."

My response is that if liberalism really can be boiled down to little more than a fetish for property, it isn’t an inspiring credo worth allying with.
But I don’t think that’s true of many liberals. For plenty of people who identify with the label today, liberalism is about securing something like a dignified life for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. The goal of socialists should be to hold a mirror up to liberals and say that they cannot achieve their goals unless they’re willing to extend liberal principles about equality and freedom from domination to the economy.
Spot on.
If liberals don’t learn from socialists and vice versa, we might not see either doctrine survive into the twenty-first century.
Written in 2024.
That may be a bit of a mask drop: not knowing anything else by the one that wrote it, maybe they're a "peaked in the 90s" gen-X asshole that is still chasing that "end of history" dragon.
"Liberals are really cool and good guys just don't scratch them, ever ever ever. And don't get in the way of their treats. And don't exist in a way that makes them uncomfortable. Skill issue."
Lmao western "leftists" try not to be reactionary challenge: impossible
Meanwhile, Hexbear will kick and scream about [smokers rights']* and the evils of the paternalism of public health policy.
*Or the right to mindlessly consume virtually any treats without a second thought
Oh, my leg is aching again. Is that another anti-vegan struggle session coming?
smokers rights
You can pry my lucky strikes from my cold dead hands
We will be doing that.
Because we love you.
Now hand them over and take your first nicotine gum ration.
u/LiberalSocialist is writing for jacobin now?
Next week on Jacobin:

"Do you disagree?"
Yooo I wrote a comment about it here like last month.
Come on guys don't abandon the genocidal maniacs. We might not ever get you suckers back and then how will we grift?
because we should be combating liberalism right?
