The fact that the this coming from the red scare sub made me suspicious unfortunatly makes me the opposite of this guy.

This isn't just being incredibly offline. This is being incredibly offline + having only friends that never talking about anything political

For sure Alex is 100% cishet white male and 90+% of his friends are also cishet white people

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 43 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

its also dumbguy energy

i got a dumbguy friend and its amazing what he just shuts out like ive seend the trend of golden-retriever boyfriend which i think is funny but those guys are people-pleasers often dumbguy energy is a force of its own and not to be trifled with

the best if when you try to have a conversation about this stuff with your dumbguy friend and he listens and then says "i dunno man..." and you think he'll give his opinion on the subject after that like most people but he doesnt he just trails off and lets things be silent for a moment and then wants to talk about video games or sports or something like he genuinely means he doesnt know lol

[–] LeopardShepherd@hexbear.net 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I had a version of this guy who I was very good friends with but yeah along with "I dunno man" he'd often just say "damn, big if true" then just change topics

I don’t think being white or cishet has anything to do with it. Some people simply do not care about anything other than their own lives. I’ve seen it from the nicest classmates and coworkers to ghoulish Lockheed employees who simply think “epic rocket satellite whoa!” And these people range from white to Asian to Hispanic to black. Money is in their bank accounts. All is good with the world.

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Not in my experience at least. I've met hundreds, if not thousands of very well off minorities my life and while they are on average more reactionary than their poorer counterparts and never talks about politics/social issues casually, every one that I've gotten close to has revealed they think about racial politics a ton

This isn't a real guy. There are no "Cartography nerds" who don't know about the Israel Palestine conflict. You'll also see that the person not being online just so happens to align themself with very online picadilos. The offline guy instantly sides with the view of OP on transgender stuff, Israel-Palestine, age gaps and any other issue.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I’m offline 90% of the time and I disagree. “From the river to the sea” isn’t some twitter slogan, so that and the “cartography nerd” gave the post away as fanfiction, but everything else is pretty reasonable.

True but i think this is a pretty realistic outcome for a guy who is just not at all online

[–] manuallybreathing@hexbear.net 11 points 11 months ago

headcanoning some guy in a reddit post as a secret wokist meme lord so irony poisoned and committed to the bit he's become trapped and has to pretend he doesn't understand systemic oppression.

I was unaware that there was age gap discourse for 20-23 year olds. They're both still uni students or just left, their lives and lifestyles aren't going to be that different. Why is this a problem? 25 year old and a 20 year old, yeah, that could be a bit sus depending on the people involved, but a 3 year gap is apparently a problem?

[–] Great_Leader_Is_Dead@hexbear.net 36 points 11 months ago (1 children)

25 year old and a 20 year old, yeah, that could be a bit sus

Even that seems silly to me.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, it depends a lot on how mature the two are and what sort of stage in their life they are. It's more like I could potentially see problems caused by that age gap, but it would probably have a lot more to do with different lifestyles and life goals, and that can happen at any age.

[–] Great_Leader_Is_Dead@hexbear.net 21 points 11 months ago

Personally I'd just say it's none of my business and move on with my day.

[–] autismdragon@hexbear.net 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Banned for starting serious age gap discourse on this post I did NOT want that.

But yes there are extremly online weirdos that would have a problem with 23 and 20.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 11 months ago

I think you're fine, it's not like you started it. And I don't think there's any discourse, just confusion about it.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (3 children)

Can someone break the age gap thing down for me? Is it a leftist thing I'm not familiar with?

I get that large age gaps can be weird and dating people below the age of consent is obviously bad, but what's the problem with 23 and 20?

[–] voight@hexbear.net 12 points 11 months ago

This is like if I started complaining about Eritrean-Somalian-Ethiopian-Djiboutian racism without clarifying it was Xitter nonsense.

[–] autismdragon@hexbear.net 11 points 11 months ago

Its not necissarily a leftist thing just a very online thing where people police age gaps heavily even when they are both adults.

If you're unaware its what Liberalsocialist, the former main character of Hexbear, spammed people in their struggle session about this issue

[–] UmbraVivi@hexbear.net 9 points 11 months ago

Feel like shit just want him back

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I know that there is a serious risk of the 23 year old being called a cradle snatcher as a joke, but I don't think that has much do to do with people's actual opinions about 3 year age gaps for 23 year olds and more to do with unhealthy banter culture.

Aside from the "body count" one, this would be me without this website and the handful of lefty news sites/blogs I visit. Everything else is just piracy, translation app, some YouTube stuff but nothing political.

I'm constantly being asked things which I have no context for. I assume it's from titok or twitter. I don't learn, form no opinion, and never hear about any of them again.

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 23 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Sounds like a boring guy tbh

[–] autismdragon@hexbear.net 23 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

To me he is a king and also i am jealous. I wish in could be unaware of age gap discourse and the Bud Light bullshit. Only thing there im happy to know about is pronouns.

Eta: also happy i known about from the river to the sea but not about people thinking its bad

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 21 points 11 months ago

Ah, to be as carefree as a himbo yea

[–] Hohsia@hexbear.net 7 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Honestly, had no idea the bud light discourse was still a thing

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 6 points 11 months ago

Oh yeah the reactionaries still go on about it.

Dude why would you want to have a serious discussion of a redscarepod post we are so much better than these people it's ridiculous.

It's like the stupidpol people, they're incapable of being happy in their fantasy worlds.

I just cherrypick their news posts because I know they pay attention to every third rail issue.

I can believe this is a real person. Some people really are that tuned out and only pay attention to entertainment.

The only doubtful parts are someone who loves cartography not being aware of the conflict and thinking body count was about MW3. Body count is something people in his age group say all the time, especially guys. I could believe he didn't know if he was mid 30's.
