With every hour that ticks by, their chances of catching him slowly dwindle, and my hope for the future grows.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 49 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I'm really impressed and it's making me just feel better about everything that someone can still get away with cool crime.

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Gotta have nerve for starters.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Nerve is only the start. That gets the deed done. Getting away with it takes a plan and the ability to make good on that plan and considering the circumstances there are numerous points of failure you could deal with, managing to minimize those and make a clean getaway where there is pretty much no information at all available still is more than just nerve. That is what we call effective planning and execution that you don't often see. Most assassins just accept they're gonna get caught before trying and either allow themselves to be or off themselves after. At this point the shooter could apply for a job at UHC and not get busted. That's the difference that makes it way cooler

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

But nerve is what keeps your wits about you to pull off that meticulous planning. think-about-it

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

Better planning=less nerve necessary/nervousness produced. And that better planning and support necessary for good deeds being done the better. That's how you get from one dude making a clean getaway to open executions with cheering crowds.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

Yeah today made me feel warm inside

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Police only solve around 40~50% of all murders on average, with some places being as low as 25%. Unless it's another pig who got clipped, then their clearance rate jumps over 90%.

It's really hard to get away with murder if cops actually try to solve it. They will no doubt have the resources to find out who killed their boss.

And yet, the the clock keeps ticking and the hogs are sharing pics of a guy who clearly isn't him lol.

Pre-existing condition: CEO

[–] eldavi@lemmy.ml 51 points 6 months ago (6 children)

some part of me wishes that it some some average person getting retribution for his loved one's life saving claim getting denied; but the shooter's demeanor suggests a professionalism that comes from doing something like this a lot and professionals get paid by someone.

really good professionals who instinctively clear silencer jams and not running must get paid A LOT of money; much more than some insurance coverage plebeian could ever afford.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 47 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

Like others have said its not a jam and a smart person would train and be prepared before doing something like this.

Plenty of working class people train with guns and are possibly ex-military. You don’t even need to be ex-military though, just level headed, know how to use a gun, and be able to keep your adrenaline under control.

[–] lemmyseizethemeans@lemmygrad.ml 43 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Agree. I think the media is going to try and spin it as a crazed lone wolf story, but in reality the proverbial shit is hitting the proverbial fan and they are scared

Be scared motherfuckers.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 45 points 6 months ago (1 children)

People (not me of course!) have been "joking" for a while now along the lines: "Hey. School shooter guys. if you're gonna blow the top of your own head off anyway, why not do something positive for the world rather than being remembered as a child killer? You could be like that Serbian dude who blasted the Austrian prince. Doesn't that sound cooler than being asshole number 400 who killed ten kids? Up to you!"

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 10 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Do you mean the dude that triggered WW1 lmao

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 20 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Not to be overly annoying but him triggering WWI is a bit of a "myth" for a bunch of reasons. The most easy of which is if all it took was some shitty prince and princess getting got in Sarajevo to make Europe start killing each other then WWI was going to happen eventually (which is true. Germany was deadset on forcing conflict). You also had the Russian Empire going to shit under incompetent Nicky. Ottoman empire imploding. Tons of other conflicts and systems failing that I can'tp recall from memory at the moment. One man in Sarajevo seems inconsequential (the prince or his assassin) in the large picture

"Great man (men) of history" and all that

I just respect the dude for not giving up. The story of how he managed to finally assassinate Ferdinand is pretty entertaining. His fate (Princep or whatever his name was... from memory) was far less entertaining. Ryan Ruth is on track for that fate it seems, and he didn't even do the deed. Free Ryan Ruth

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago

Oh yeah no worries I don't know shit about the origins of WW1 except people calling Europe a "powder keg", so thanks!

[–] FishLake@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 6 months ago

It was still a cool thing to do, just not a very cash money thing to do.

[–] Sulvor@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago

All these ghouls walking around in the same meat sacks as the rest of us, it’s that easy

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Crazed lone wolf with a sick getaway plan

[–] triplenadir@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 6 months ago

"a smart person would train" not like the clowns who tried to gat Trump then

[–] sp3tr4l@lemmy.zip 38 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Its not really a 'jam' in the sense of an unexpected failure that requires diagnosis of the problem before you can fix it, its pretty common when using subsonic ammo, the lesser amount of gunpowder in the round prevents the action from cycling, so you just know to do it every shot.

Thats like supressed pistols 101, any idiot that watches a guntuber on youtube a couple times a week will pick that up by osmosis.

What does indicate a better degree of professionalism is yes, what you call demeanor.

Bbeing aware of the woman standing nearby and not interacting with her in any way, as she isn't the target, doesn't seem to be doing anything to stop him.

The handling of the weapon, the speed at which he does things like cycle the weapon, nope that didn't cycle properly, cycle again, fire, etc.

Doesn't bolt out of there, doesn't panic, no indication at any point he is overcome with fear or anxiety, just does the thing, gets on a bike, leaves.

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 24 points 6 months ago (4 children)

It's CNN so take it with a grain of salt, but the talking heads are leaning into this being a hit man. Which on the one hand is disappointing because I wanted it to be a comrade but on the other, we get to see factions of the bourgeoisie fighting each other in broad daylight popcorn-time

[–] JohnBrownsBawdy@hexbear.net 31 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The media are never ever going to float the idea that a regular pissed off person would do this as an act of revenge/retribution/justice. It has to be a non ideological act, or the act of a madman. They cannot possibly offer any other explanation because simply recognizing the idea that the 99% can use violence to scare their oppressors is too threatening to be acknowledged.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

The sob pieces over this waste of breath make me sick

[–] sp3tr4l@lemmy.zip 20 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I'm guessing the talking heads don't know shit.

It's been less than 24 hrs.

The police don't know shit either.

Is a hitman theory plausible?

Sure, of course.

Are other theories plausible?

Yes, obviously, duh.

Wouldn't be the first time a particularly aggreived and/or aggrevated individual put in the work to learn how to do something like this, in the manner they did it in.

Nobody knows shit right now, the talking heads are talking out their assess, no actual evidence to support anything beyond what us goobers in this thread have.

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 15 points 6 months ago

Gotta hire the hitman for a reason. This means a Hitman is more affordable than medical coverage. That says just as much if not more about America

[–] mudpuppy@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago

i heard that the nypd decided it was a personal grudge against the company but i didn't really look into it. i feel like they're likely to say it's a hitman just for propaganda value, like don't get any ideas proletariat

[–] tactical_trans_karen@hexbear.net 31 points 6 months ago (4 children)

This wasn't a hit man, this was someone getting vengeance and casing their target/practicing. I think we're going to see another pig get taken out by this guy.

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago

May he be remembered as the one who started a trend

[–] miz@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

looking forward to seeing CCTV footage in three months of a guy with the same backpack ventilating a banker and freaking out

soypoint-1 πŸŽ’soypoint-2

[–] mudpuppy@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago (1 children)

that sounds way too optimistic but god i would be so happy

I will hope, and with how far he's gotten and the overwhelming positive response, I expect copycats. Also, def not a pro, the guy engraved messages on the casings, this was in fact a vengeance killing.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 31 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I dunno, I could see it being funded by someone who got a life insurance payout on their significant other (who was denied coverage on something that ended their life) and decided that someone else was getting buried as well

[–] TankieTanuki@hexbear.net 26 points 6 months ago

Someone did a GoFundMe for "medical" expenses. flowey-wink

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago

I don't really care who did the shooting. I'm just glad the fucker is dead.

[–] HomoSexualTransStalinist@hexbear.net 12 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Eh the guy's still dead either way, what does it matter who killed him. Him being dead won't make anything better anyway, they'll just get another guy to continue doing the same job and maybe increase police funding, so its all academic really.

[–] Justice@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 6 months ago

Not with that attitude!

But on a boring for-real note... yeah. I think everyone is aware this sort of "propaganda of the deed" stuff (if ideologically inspired) doesn't actually work. People tried it before the Russian revolution and it certainly makes the lives of the worst people suck way more, but they didn't significantly change what they were doing as a result. The Tzar continued Tzaring.

(referring specifically to attempted or successful assassinations. not ALL propaganda of the deed actions like bank robbery by hot mustachioed Georgian men)

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 51 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'm glad I'm not in a section of the internet where they're clutching pearls over this

[–] mudpuppy@hexbear.net 29 points 6 months ago (1 children)

i haven't found one. the youtube comments section is usually straight up hitler but i found very few people there expressing any sympathy for him at all

[–] Cataphract@lemmy.ml 16 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I think they're referring to the lemmy.world mod thing they were talking about in another post lol. I can't find the original one I saw for some reason but there's this https://lemmy.zip/post/27427367 (United Healthcare CEO gets murdered, many celebrate, lemmy.world mod(s?) pile on the temp bans and delete posts)
