imagine ending a lucrative partnership/long term friendship over someone disliking the same guy as you, but a little more

honestly really repellent behavior

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 86 points 4 months ago

It also makes all their other "edgy" humor just seem conpletely cringe.

They make fun of pearl clutches getting mad at rock music because it's the devil so made rock songs about the devil and rocks but if somebody says something mean about a fascist that's a bridge to far.

[–] TrudeauCastroson@hexbear.net 65 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Jack Black would rather still be in kung-fu panda 27, instead of being tethered to a guy who pulled a kathy lee griffin by going in too hard on trump for civility-minded people.

[–] Kuori@hexbear.net 52 points 4 months ago

what kathy griffin did was significantly cooler and more hardcore! that's part of what makes it so gutless; this is basically a nothing statement that literally billions of people would casually agree with and it's being treated as if gass came out and said "i am a full-fledged neo-nazi, i have killed before and i will kill again, a very special thank you to my boy jack for making it all possible!" it's so far beyond ridiculous.

"Such a comment is too incivil" maybe-later-honey

Jack Black definitely agrees, he's just a hyper careerist with a very manicured public persona. These people believe in their careers above all, and that's what this is about. All PR.

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 48 points 4 months ago (4 children)

He probably has enough money to live on for the rest of his life without working again if he wanted to. At that point, you either have principles or you don't and Jack Black clearly doesn't.

So many people outing themselves as people who won't pull the fucking trigger if they can travel back in time to kill Hitler.

[–] emizeko@hexbear.net 45 points 4 months ago (3 children)

uh, can I borrow the keys to the time machine? I'll be right back after I provide indigenous Americans in circa 1490 with vaccines for European diseases and warnings about subsequent European crimes if their colonies are allowed to spread unchecked

To paraphrase a joke seen on Naked Capitalism the other day.

Partisans are in the hills near a pass where Hitler is scheduled to travel through, preparing their rifles for an ambush. They wait, and wait, and wait, but Hitler and his entourage never arrive. One partisan turns to the other and says, "Gee, I hope nothing happened to him."

[–] KoboldKomrade@hexbear.net 102 points 4 months ago

Me a normal human being: "I think Hitler should have died in the trenches of WWI." Jack Black, a soulless corpse: "Actually, you're worse then Hitler."

[–] citrussy_capybara@hexbear.net 90 points 4 months ago

if you won’t even throw away a 30 year career to protect trump, can you even call yourself a biden fan?

[–] egg1918@hexbear.net 90 points 4 months ago

All he said was "don't miss next time"? Lmao get the fuck over yourself Jack, this is genuinely pathetic.

[–] Ericthescruffy@hexbear.net 89 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Apparently the Australian government is DEPORTING them over this: which is quite frankly the most absolutely metal, hardcore, and based shit Tenacious D has ever had happen! Jack should have embraced the shit out of this and rode it.

[–] Black_Mald_Futures@hexbear.net 70 points 4 months ago (4 children)

Why the fuck would another country give a fuck about this shit, trump isn't a fucking Australian president

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 69 points 4 months ago (1 children)

A country can never lick the boot of the US hard enough.

Jack Black cancelling a tour and screwing over Kyle was not on my 2024 bingo card

Especially not over something as tame as hating Donald Trump

I would not condone hate speech

What gets counted as hate speech these days

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 84 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hate speech is when you say mean things about someone because you hate them.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 56 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Hate speech is when you hope the open fascist, THAT YOUR ENTIRE POLITICAL GROUP HAS BEEN CALLING A FASCIST FOR YEARS, gets shot.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 47 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Who was literally calling for military tribunals and extra judicial executions of his political opponents LAST WEEK.

Not to be a pearl clutching lib and act like there was any chance of that ever happening but for fucks sake, he was telling his whooping hogs last week he was gonna execute you but it's too much this week to be like "damn too bad that guy missed when he shot at the guy that was threatening to round up lgbtq people and put them in camps"

Kyle Gass, as ever, a credit to us stout and balded kings.

I was always more of a KG Soloman 5000 fan.

Jack Black is currently working for the Dems so this makes sense in that they wouldn't want his campaigning for Biden to be associated with endorsing the assassination attempt.

It's cringe obviously. But it makes sense in the context that he's literally part of their campaign and that being against it is the party line.

I think it'll blow over after the election and they'll be back together. Purely happening because of the "Rock the Vote" gigs that Jack is part of(cringe warning). With that said the claim that Rock the Vote is "non-partisan" is obviously bollocks.

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 82 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Jack Black being the wiling poster boy for the Biden campaign is more of an indictment of him then a justification for this.

If you had to choose between a decades-long friendship and creative partnership or being third-billed in another Jumanji sequel, who among us wouldn't slap on that pith helmet and cash that check?

Can't you see he's the man,
Let me hear you applaud,
He is more than a man
He's a shiny golden god.

He is going to kick your fucking ass,
And you know his name is Kyle Gass

New Wave tried to destroy The Metal

But The Metal had its way

Grunge then tried to dethrone The Metal

But Metal was in the way

Punk Rock tried to destroy The Metal

But Metal was much too strong

Techno tried to defile The Metal

But Techno was proven wrong

also

"After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold."

I guess a spicy comment could destroy the Metal.
