Hot take : Jack Black is devoid of talent and people should just stop talking about him

Well I'm not sure it's that hot here but it certainly is on the mainstream internet

[–] Gorb@hexbear.net 52 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Tenacious D was genuinely good and the little skits they did were funny at the time. He's just been riding that fame for a very long time. Tbh I'm glad he's just a shitlib unlike Gervais who made only 1 good thing and then dive bombed into being an insufferable twat

[–] icerunner_origin@startrek.website 14 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gervais was insufferable right back to his days on The 11 O'Clock Show. I regard The Office as an anomaly.

[–] Gorb@hexbear.net 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I take it he's always been that smarmy self obsessed athiest weirdo who thinks he's above everyone else? Like the one true enlightened one.

The office really was an anomaly. The podcast with karl pilkington also but the humour entirely came from karl in that anyway and Gervais just served as a laugh track.

I mean talentless hack would make a good harry dubois it's basically method acting

Young Jake Black was good I just feel now in the era of continual media making and consumption he is now self insert "omg Jake Black!!!" instead of willing or being offered to actually play a character which is horrifyingly depressing. In fact Jake Black and Mamoa are examples of actors being reduced into their names the way capitalist media commonly reduces the arts down into the most easily consumable and marketable pieces like slop sold to readily hungry pigs

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago (2 children)

yeah but Jason Momoa only has acting chops for Aquaman really

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 11 points 2 months ago

Jason Momoa was good in Stargate Atlantis

Now. He was always annoying

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 31 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

eghhh, he's run his course but he had a few good movies where he acted well, and he can play some fun music. I wouldn't say talentless. He's just on a very cash-grabbing run as the gaming movie guy.

[–] SeekTheDeletion@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

he's very one note, and isn't really an actor but more just plays himself. Once that got old after a couple movies, his career should have ended

[–] bortsampson@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

He was good as a voice actor in the Metalocalpse movie. Not a fan of him in much else. I can't speak to his talent because he just rubs me the wrong way and it wouldn't be fair.

[–] frazorth@feddit.uk 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I enjoyed School of Rock.

That was a while ago now though.

He was really good as a supporting character actor in the x files lol

But this was so long ago he's effectively a different person

[–] Ossay@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

as is well known, it is impossible to grow facial hair or use hairpieces to replicate them. so we can only use actors for this role who are currently sporting mutton chops

also lol at using a man with a gigantic jaw made of titanium to portray Kim, whose main caricature feature is a small jaw.

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 32 points 2 months ago

Also I don't think Jack Black has the acting ability to play Harry, and he's not a good face for such a movie because of the genre people are used to see him act in

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 40 points 2 months ago

daniel dae kim as kim is borderline racist or something because they have nothing in common besides being korean/fantasy korean-new worlder, and having "kim" in their name. it would be like casting harry styles as tequila sunset

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 36 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I could play lt-dbyf-dubois way better than Jack Black. I understand The Face and can wear it on command. tequila-sunset

Harry DuBois is basically Bill from King of the Hill if he were a pig instead of a troop

Zionist Harry Du Bois would be something.

[–] WeedReference420@hexbear.net 32 points 2 months ago

Ryan Gosling as every Disco Elysium character

Disco Literally Mesium

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

Jack Black can't play a drunk marxist cop when he's always cast as the utopian anarchist who is suspiciously only surrounded by other white people.

[–] heggs_bayer@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Casting aside, how would a game where at least half of the dialog takes place in the protagonist's mind even work as a movie?

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 28 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The Lynch version of Dune did that for much of the run.

[–] SeekTheDeletion@hexbear.net 14 points 2 months ago (9 children)

and it was infamously a terrible movie that even Lynch hated

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

David Lynch is wrong and I'm not afraid to say it.

[–] SeekTheDeletion@hexbear.net 8 points 2 months ago

half the movie is cross fades and narration. the 2nd 50% of the plot happens in like 5 minutes. it's bad lmao

Live action version of Inside Out

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just have them talk over the movie itd be like the movie form of an episode of psychosis

Give each person in the theatre a set of headphones that will overlay a randomised track with different in-head personas talking for each person watching. A slightly different experience every time.

[–] Alaskaball@hexbear.net 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Stavros Halkias as Harry

Takehiro Hira as Kim

[–] BobDole@hexbear.net 19 points 2 months ago

Stavbot laughs

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago

Skidoosh comrade.

[–] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

Jack Black is a man with next to no principles beyond making a check. Who better to play somebody in a tabula rasa state.

[–] LGOrcStreetSamurai@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Personally i would love to see Hollywood totally miss the mark (as they always do) and miscast Kim . Someone like a Ma Dong-seok, or some other buff dude. Just a cursed big and burly Kim. de-physical-instrument
