Why is McDonalds having a TedTalk/E3 style presentation?

I guess, it's just very funny that this was part of it

This looks like something that would be done as a promotional ad for McDs, not something that would be part of a shareholder meeting lmao

People's McRepublic of Ancapistan ancap-good

Wikipedia: According to Fisher, capitalist realism has so captured public thought that the idea of anti-capitalism no longer acts as the antithesis to capitalism. Instead, anti-capitalism is deployed as a means for reinforcing capitalism. This is done through modern media which aims to provide a safe means of entertaining anti-capitalist ideas without actually challenging the system. The lack of coherent alternatives, as presented through the lens of capitalist realism, leads many anti-capitalist movements to cease targeting the end of capitalism, but instead to mitigate its worst effects, often through individual consumption-based activities such as Product Red.

Clapping vociferously for the McDonald's TED Talk between each line to ensure I am able to maintain my hourly burger supply (mandatory by American law)

Yeah I would actually consider eating there again if they had literally anything that was vegan or at least vegetarian except maybeee the fries

a tiktoker I follow said he can't even eat the fries there cuz they're fried in beef tallow (I also saw comments saying they stopped that so idk)

[–] PaX@hexbear.net 6 points 7 months ago

I've heard it varies from location to location

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 5 points 7 months ago

I'll have to look that up too cuz I bought an extra side of fries for a Jain friend and then they couldn't eat them and it made them feel bad which then made me feel bad because they were earnestly so sad about wasting food. I did make some killer breakfast burritos out of those fries so not all was wasted but in the moment it was a real bummer. There is a serious lack of fast food options that are veggie/vegan that aren't a salad.

They stopped using beef tallow in the 1990s, or possibly literally 1990, depending on who you ask. Very likely before your tiktoker was born.

[–] rtstragedy@hexbear.net 4 points 7 months ago

I worked there some time between 2005-15 (I'm old and can't remember years well but it was definitely after 1990) and I absolutely was told to put the lard in the fry vats. Interestingly they used canola oil for the non French fry vats.

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 7 months ago

Ew, Maccas has gone woke? I'm not going be eating there anymore! (Though that has nothing to do with wokeness and everything to do with their burgers being half the size they were a few years ago and twice the price)

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 7 points 7 months ago

They're talking about TV screen menus
