I'm sure Musk cares very deeply for men working dangerous thankless jobs and doesn't think them to be mindless Orcs that give him treats because he's a coastal elite billionaire manbaby.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago

"The Help" are seen as "NPCs" that he looks down upon as it is.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

You’d think more white men would be insulted on the idea that the only “reward” their boss wants to pay them in is being “the king of the help.”

But that’s how it always goes. The reason white boomer men are loyal lapdogs that live vicariously through Wall Street scumbags and the Koch brothers is because of the whole idea that as them all being white. They’re fellow elites too! After all, they’re the asshole boss in the domestic environment, and republicans are protecting asshole bosses in any form.

[-] Wertheimer@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

Nonsense! I bet he's offered horses to many domestic workers.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

Nonsense! I bet he's offered horses to many domestic workers.

I don't see why my-hero wouldn't offer gifts to "NPCs" to raise the fuckability meter like he might in a creepy "dating sim" game.

I knew an Nb who tried out as a plumber. The job was fine and they were perfectly capable of doing it, it's just that every other plumber they met was an unbelievable piece of shit. Or something about the culture being hostile to anyone who wasn't a straight white male

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

You'd think being a teacher in a liberal school district would be at least somewhat "progressive" but nope, just about all my fellow faculty were gambobrained hogs that liked to snicker about "feeemales" whenever they got the chance (including students libertarian-alert ) and would get really uneasy about thugs us-foreign-policy walking past their Ring/Nextdoor fortresses.

[-] SeekTheDeletion@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

I’m pretty sure Cop-Teacher is the most common marriage in the US in terms of professions (excluding one/both spouses being unemployed or staying home).

There’s a reason why schools look and function a lot like prisons, and a certain type of chud attracted to the disciplinarian system.

Unlike cops there are decent teachers out there, who really do strive to help kids how they can. The environment and funding and support is just not there.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

The environment and funding and support is just not there.

I did my best for as long as I could, but the testing industrial complex wanted kids to fail so more schools could get privatized so it was always an uphill fight to teach kids anything but the tests themselves, and I had to resort to shortcuts and the like just to try to get them to pass the corpo rituals just for their own sakes.

And oh yes, there was a lot of security theater in the school, including armed pigmask-off harassing kids constantly.

[-] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago

I wonder what's up with that perception. Like, I meet "progressive" teachers a lot, but that's because I largely meet "progressive" people a lot.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

To a lot of fairweather liberals, they see "progressive" as "the world is full of tourist attractions and I can score sophistication points by indulging in that."

A local example was "DAE LE TACO TRUCKS" enthusiasm while at the same time muttering in "polite" us-foreign-policy company about how much they didn't like them sticking around after building their houses and maybe mowing their lawns.

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

One of my teachers had multiple units about the Holocaust and the Civil Rights Movement as part of the curriculum.

Photos of Abu Ghraib came out and we were watching it on the news. The student news anchors were commenting on photos of men being stripped naked and tortured about how barbaric it was. My teacher then said "Yeah but they're terrorists trying to kill us."

Most of my respect for her died that instant. She didn't care about the Holocaust because it was the fucking Holocaust. She cared because it happened to people that looked like her.

[-] CocteauChameleons@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

I was a plumber helper for a week and a day. I was being paid 14hr to help dig up septic pipes and drainage fields. Was never given proper PPE to touch shit with. My supervisor would blast Tom Mcdonald in the work truck and treat me like shit on the job. Which isnt universal in labores jobs Ive had supervisors who were fucking ex cons that still had control over their emotions.

Anyways that supervisor and my coworker were racist as shit. Big reason to never show up again

[-] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

My supervisor would blast Tom Mcdonald in the work truck

I find this hilarious. Like, usually I imagine McDonald as the sort of slop hogs listen to privately because it just isn't very good music, so they are basically listening to a slam poetry version of facebook boomer memes with some garbage trap beat on top, but it's all just a recitation of grievances, you aren't gonna dance to that shit. That and they use it as a shibboleth to find out if someone is Your Guy. Blasting it in public is shit taste even for a Tom McDonald fan.

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 50 points 1 week ago

“I want there to be a male bias in jobs.”

“Here are jobs where men are overrepresented”

“Men are the victims here.”

You got the special treatment you asked for, why are YOU complaining?

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 32 points 1 week ago

glasses-on "I just want to be really mad at feeemales."

[-] Imnecomrade@hexbear.net 40 points 1 week ago

I have worked between multiple Data Center Technician contracts during COVID. I was treated like shit in all of them, and the culture was heavily conservative/fascist. Those jobs need to be paid a lot more, have much better working conditions, etc. before the culture can be improved and the jobs are less discriminating to nearly everyone.

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

and the culture was heavily conservative/fascis

I'm convinced every techie is a fascist until proven otherwise

[-] Imnecomrade@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

Yeah, it's pretty lonely being a commie in my field.

[-] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago

It depends on what side of the industry you on. Cushy IT Admin position at a company of half decent computer users where updating Adobe is how you keep your job? Probably a fascist.

Installer working the frontlines and in more customer oriented fields? More lib and leftist.

Funny how having jobs that imply you have power makes people more fash, as if power always corrupts and that corruption usually looks like Fascism.

[-] MarxMadness@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 1 week ago

power always corrupts and that corruption usually looks like Fascism

I know this was kind of an offhand comment, but I think we want to be much more measured with our critiques of power, and avoid playing fast and loose with what we label fascism.

Tons of people are able to exercise power responsibly -- lots of good teachers and parents out there -- especially when they have resources, education, and there's even minimal accountability.

[-] MayoPete@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I like how mao-wave exercised power against landlords

[-] BioWarfarePosadist@hexbear.net 3 points 1 week ago

Absolutely is an offhand comment. Hexbear is where I shit post about my beliefs, knowing that people generally don't want to be debate lord me over everything.

I promise my views are more nuanced than what I generally present.

Because nobody wants to hire women for those jobs you goddamn ding-dongs

[-] pooh@hexbear.net 37 points 1 week ago

Also I doubt many women want to go into strangers homes to do work for obvious reasons, in the case of cable installers. For the other jobs, a lot of times those work environments aren't as appealing to women because they get treated like shit by their male coworkers. Same goes for visibly LGBTQ people.

[-] a_little_red_rat@hexbear.net 34 points 1 week ago

I have worked in construction, metal working and in a warehouse and I can absolutely understand why no woman would want to hang around in those circles lol. I felt uncomfortable with the tryhard machismo and I'm a cishet cracker

[-] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

I have never seen so much horniness as when I worked construction. And I later worked in a student dorm where people would have sex in stairwells or jerked off in the elevator lmao

You care about men's rights, Elon? If so, let your workers unionize. I'm sure the men who work for you would love that.

[-] HamManBad@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

Part of the problem is that the New Deal, passed in coalition with Southern apartheid Democrats, promoted unions specifically in industries dominated by white men. So the jobs Elon listed are more likely than other jobs to have a union, and its probably reactionary as hell

[-] Rojo27@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago

Oh hey, it's one of those men's rights activists that posts "Where are all the feminists?" or "Dont women want equal treatment?" with a video of burly men working on an oil rig.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Rest assured that the Silicon Valley bazinga billionaires despise the burly men working on an oil rig too and even question their status as human beings because of "NPC" brainworms

[-] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

I always like to flip it right back at them.

“That’s the special treatment you asked for! Why don’t you want special treatment anymore?”

[-] Skeleton_Erisma@hexbear.net 28 points 1 week ago

Like as if bazinga billionaire and the terminally online hack behind end wokeness actually cares about any of those workers listed.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They want more disposable "NPCs" to toil away while they build up slave harems for their fantastical escape plans, just like in the Ready Player Two treats. so-true

[-] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 26 points 1 week ago

That's interesting, Mr Muskrat, please face the wall how-compelling

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 25 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

He's rich enough to make this issue his personal hobby horse and fund a billion dollars of advocacy on the issue every year for the next century. But he isn't. There is perhaps no-one on earth with concerns as hollow and vapid as his.

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago

I've definitely known women that jumped from blue collar to desk work just to get away from some shitty men emboldened by a toxic culture, but I suppose I'm preaching more to the choir and less to Musk here.

[-] Maturin@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

why does no one complain about this?

He complains to his audience of fellow complainers who complain about women all the fucking time

[-] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Oh so you care about those workers and want to make sure they get better working conditions and pay right? anakin-padme-2

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

ok mr smelly go work some iron my-hero

[-] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 19 points 1 week ago

It's kind of fascinating how Musk will regurgitate conservative talking points that are decades old. I've had co-workers in the past who were like that, who would spout opinions that was like a time capsule to 30 years ago.

[-] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

"The left can't meme" - an aging divorced chanlord that keeps posting that same fucking smirking frog picture

[-] regul@hexbear.net 18 points 1 week ago

Men yearn for asphalt.

[-] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

if all of those short films I watched growing up are accurate, they only hire dudes with freakishly massive penises to install cable.

Man is heavily against workers unionizing and illegally threatened such efforts in his company. Gtfo with this fake 'concern'

[-] hypercracker@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago

setting aside the rest of my life to organize an advocacy group for the one political issue I care about: gender-equal hiring initiatives for the least pleasant career you've ever heard of

[-] HelluvaBottomCarter@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

Yeah those dudes should have their needs met regardless of profession

"No, not like that"

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 9 points 1 week ago

They do. They're actively trying to market to and recruit women but internal good old boys clubs keep resisting from inside.

Here's a bunch of stats on women in construction.

[-] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I legitimately cant get work doing this shit, and even if i could working with men fucking sucks, completely soul destroying

anyway i think musk is calling for DEI? Cap the number of men who can go to garbage academy! Bazinga

ps i have international mens day committed to memory, Im an #ally

[-] Hestia@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago

Thats what happens when you scare women out of those fields.
